A new tool category called "Layers" has been added in this update of GeoTools. Primarily, the Layer tool category comprises of tools for Layer Isolate and Restore and Layer State Management (Save and Restore operations).

Under Layer Tools Category, we have the following new commands:

1. The GT_ISO (Isolate layers of selected objects) command is used to isolate the layers of selected objects. By Isolate, we mean that only layers of selected objects will be thawed and turned on and the rest of the drawing layers will be frozen.

2. The GT_RESTORE (Restore layer state prior to running GT_ISO) restores the layer state to what it was just prior to running the last GT_ISO command.

3. The GT_SL1, GT_SL2 and GT_SL3 commands are three commands to save different layer states in the drawing.

4. The GT_RL1, GT_RL2 and GT_RL3 commands are commands to restore the three saved layer states in the drawing, respectively saved by the GT_SL1, GT_SL2 and GT_SL3 commands.

The Layer Tools Category is only the beginning in a series of Layer Tools that we intend to build. Your feedback and new ideas are welcome.

Elsewhere, under Draw, Miscellaneous and Text Tools, four brand new commands have been added to GeoTools in this update. All these commands are particularly useful for map digitizing and for general drawing management, apart from having other generic uses.

1. The GT_BOXSCREEN command: (Draw Tools). Draw a rectangle box at the current screen extents. Useful in situations where you want to mark the current view area of the map with a closed polyline representing the screen extents so that the area can be determined by coordinates for any future use, book-marking or export etc.

2. The GT_BOUNDENT command: (Draw Tools) Draw bounding box around selected object(s). This command draws a single rectangular bounding box (closed polyline) at the geometric extents of all selected objects put together.

3. The GT_ZOOMENT command: (Miscellaneous Tools): Zoom to extent of selected object(s) (with 5% margin). This command zooms to the extent of selected objects with a margin of 5% border on the sides of the screen.

4. The GT_EASYTEXT command: (Draw & Text Tools): Create text aligned to a curve. This command helps to place text strings (labels) along a curve like polylines, arc, splines etc. This is not a curved text creator tool. Instead it just places text strings at an angle which is pre-set and aligned along the slope of the curve at the picked point on the curve.

Commands Enhanced:
------------------

1. The GT_AUTOINCROD command (Autodesk Map Tools - Create auto-incrementing object table data) now allows to select multiple objects to increment object data. This is optional - you can either choose Multiple incrementing option or a Manual one-by-one pick like before.

2. The GT_CONTLABEL command (Polyline ToolSet 1 - Label contour polylines) has been enhanced with a new labeling option as well as a new labeling mode. You can now label the polylines, lines, arc and splines with their total slope lengths as well, in addition to the existing options of Elevation and User String. Additionally, you now have the option of placing the annotation at the exact mid-point of the curve. Please be aware that the GT_CONTLABEL command now provides annotation functionality which is much beyond what it set out to do. The command can annotate polylines, lines, arcs and splines and in this sense, it can now be considered a general purpose curve annotation tool rather than one that has its scope limited to annotating contours.

3. The CCL, CPCL, SL and SS commands have been renamed and prefixed with a 'GT_' to make the command names GT_CCL, GT_CPCL, GT_SL and GT_SS in order to make it consistent with the other GeoTools commands.

G D F Viewer enhancements
---------------------------

The GDF Viewer has been updated with some significant changes in this version of GeoTools. The current version of the GDF Viewer is 1.02 (Beta).

Enhanced command: IG_IMPORTGDF (Import GDF file): A new option has been added in the IG_IMPORTGDF command. You now have an option to import the entire GDF data into AutoCAD memory only without actually creating the GDF elements as AutoCAD entities. You can then use the IG_PNTQUERY, IG_LINEQUERY, IG_AREAQUERY, IG_AREAQUERY or IG_RELQUERY commands described below to selectively drawing the GDF elements in AutoCAD. This optional memory import helps to better manage huge GDF datasets which can take quite a while to import into AutoCAD.

The following new commands have been added in the GDF Viewer:

IG_PNTQUERY - Draw/Query GDF Point Feature: The IG_PNTQUERY command is used to draw and query a GDF point feature from memory. This command works on the memory-built list of GDF Point features and helps you to select and view/query/draw a specific point feature.

IG_LINEQUERY - Draw/Query GDF Line Feature: The IG_LINEQUERY command is used to draw and query a GDF line feature from memory. This command works on the memory-built list of GDF Line features and helps you to select and view/query/draw a specific line feature.

IG_AREAQUERY - Draw/Query GDF Area Feature: The IG_AREAQUERY command is used to draw and query a GDF area feature from memory. This command works on the memory-built list of GDF Area features and helps you to select and view/query/draw a specific area feature.

IG_COMPQUERY - Draw/Query GDF Complex Features: The IG_COMPQUERY command is used to draw and query a GDF complex feature from memory. This command works on the memory-built list of GDF Complex features and helps you to select and view/query/draw a specific complex feature.

IG_RELQUERY - Draw/Query GDF Relationship Features: The IG_RELQUERY command is used to draw and query a GDF Relationship feature from memory. This command works on the memory-built list of GDF Relationship features and helps you to select and view/query/draw a specific relationship feature.
