This tutorial covers some of the GeoTools  Conversion.tools

1. Open the drawing named lesson8.dwg which is located in your GeoTools Tutorials folder. This folder is located in the folder where you have installed GeoTools.

2. You should see a drawing (see Image 9-1) of a small layout of road under development represented by 3D Polyline.

3. Now consider that we would like to represent the same road layout by using Spline rather than Polyline. Then we can convert the same 3D Polylines into spline.

Converting Polyline to Spline

1.Click on menu GeoTools => Conversion => Convert polyline to spline or type GT_PL2SPL at the command prompt.

2. This will pop-up the standard selection dialog box as shown below in (Image 9-2)

3. Click on Scan selected objects button and select the center 3D Polylines as shown below with arrows in (Image 9-9)

4. Then click on Apply button. This will pop-up the dialog box as shown below in (Image 9-3).

9. Choose the options as shown in above (Image 9-3) and click on OK button. This will convert the 3D Polyline to Spline as shown below in (Image 9-4)

After learning how to convert 3D Polyline to spline we will see the Vice-Versa, i.e. converting spline to polyline

Converting spline to polyline

1. Click on menu GeoTools => Conversion => Convert spline to polyline or type GT_SPL2PL at the command prompt.

2. This will pop-up the dialog box as shown below in (Image 9-5)

3. Choose the option Join Fit points and click on OK button

4. This will pop-up the standard selection dialog box as shown below in (Image 9-6)

5. Now click on the button Scan selected objects and select the spline as shown below in (Image 9-10)

6. Then click on Apply button. This will pop-up the dialog box as shown below in (Image 9-7)

7. Choose the options as shown in above (Image 9-7) and click on OK button. This will convert all the Spline to 3D Polyline as shown below in (Image 9-8)

So we have learnt two very frequently required commands in road design i.e. converting Pline to Spline and vice-versa.
