This tutorial covers some of the GeoTools Inquiry tools
for finding out the details of the Lots.
1. Open the drawing named lesson5.dwg
which is located in your GeoTools Tutorials folder. This folder is
located in the folder where you have installed GeoTools.
2. You should see a drawing of a Sub-Division layout as shown in (Image 6-1).

3. The layout drawing shows number of Lots and
each Lot is given a unique number but now we would like to know the area of each
lot and mark it beside the lot number.
Marking the area of each
lot
1. Click on menu GeoTools=> Inquiry =>
Compute summed areas of
closed polylines or type GT_CALCAREA at the command
prompt.

5. This will pop-up a dialog box as show below in (Image
6-3).

6. Choose the options as shown in above (Image 6-3) and
specify the Text Height as 2.00
7. You can specify the layer in which labeling to
be done by clicking on Select... button.
8. This will pop-up the dialog box as shown below in (Image 6-4).

9. Select the layer LOT_LINES and click on OK button. This will
bring you back to the previous dialog box.
10. Next click on OK button this will pop-up the Standard
selection dialog box as shown below in (Image 6-6).

12. Now for labeling the objects in LOT_LINES
layer only. Check the Layer box under Properties and
then click on Layers button under Names in Drawing.
13. This will pop-up the dialog box as shown below in (Image 6-4).

14. Select the layer LOT_LINES and click on OK
button. This will bring you back to Standard selection dialog box. As shown
below in (Image 6-7).

15. If you notice in the Standard selection dialog box above. In the Layers
box LOT_LINES is selected. (Note: This will select the objects in LOT_LINES
layer only)
16. Now click on button Scan entire drawing, it will show you the
number of objects selected from LOT_LINES layer at the bottom left corner of Standard
selection box.
17. Lastly click on Apply button for labeling all the Lots with
respective area. As shown below in (Image 6-8).

After learning how to label the area of
lots, we will see how to get the total summed area of objects in respective
layers.
Getting the total summed area of objects in respective layers
1. Click on menu GeoTools => Polyline
Toolset 2 =>
Compute summed
polyline areas from selected layers or type GT_LAYERAREA at the command
prompt.
2. This will pop-up dialog box as shown below in (Image 6-10)

3. Now click on Select Layers...
button this will pop-up the dialog box as shown below in (Image 6-11)

4. Select LOT_LINES and
ROAD_EDGES layer
as shown above in (Image 6-11) and click on OK button this will
bring you back to the Display length and total area dialog box.

5. For generating a table of layer areas check the box Create table of
layer areas and click on OK button.
6. Next you will be prompted to pick an insertion point for
placing the table. Pick a point in empty area this will generate the table as
shown below in (Image 6-13)

Now we will see how we can get the detailed statistic of the
current drawing
Getting Detailed Statistics of the current
drawing
1. Click on menu GeoTools => Inquiry =>
Display
drawing statistics or type GT_DWG_STAT at the command
prompt. This will pop-up the dialog box as shown below in (image 6-14)

2. Check all the boxes as shown above in
(Image 6-14) for processing and click on OK button.
3. This will pop-up the Standard selection dialog box as shown below in (Image
4-11)

4. Click on Scan entire drawing button for selecting all the
objects in the drawing. At the bottom left corner of the dialog box it displays
the number of objects.
5. Now click on Apply button to start processing the details.
After the processing is over you will be prompted to specify the filename for saving the drawing statistics.
6. Specify a desired file name along with file location path.
7. To view the details of drawing statistics just press function key F2
which will bring up the AutoCAD text window displaying all the details.
8. And at the same time you can also view the
detailed drawing statistics by opening in Notepad text editor from the path
where you have saved. It will display the total
drawing statistics as shown
below in (Image 6-15)
